Pro Bono Victory: Greene Espel Helps Secure Asylum for Pro Bono Client through The Advocates for Human Rights

In May 2021, after years of delay, a long-time pro bono client of Greene Espel was granted asylum. The client was forced to flee from his home country of Ethiopia after he was imprisoned and persecuted for his work as a political and social activist.

In partnership with The Advocates for Human Rights, X. Kevin Zhao began representing the client in 2015. The case presented several challenges, including a many-years-long delay and ever-changing political conditions in Ethiopia. In November 2019, our client was interviewed by an asylum officer, and his asylum petition was approved in May 2021. The client is thrilled and grateful for Kevin's work, and Kevin is honored to have helped our client ensure a safe future in the United States.
