When: Monday, May 21, 2018 – Tuesday, May 22, 2018

Where: St. Paul RiverCenter

Greene Espel attorneys will once again present at the nation’s premier employment law conference. The Upper Midwest Employment Law Institute, hosted by the Minnesota CLE, features two days of practical and current analyses of issues and developments facing employers.

Greene Espel attorneys will present in the following sessions:

Religion in the Workplace – Duties to Accommodate and the Consequences of Not Doing So; Clifford M. Greene, Faris A. Rashid & Holley Horrell

Claims related to religion at work – discrimination, harassment, and failure to accommodate an applicant or employee’s religious beliefs or practices – are increasingly common. These claims can be volatile and contentious, often involving not only the employer but also co-workers. This session focuses on practical steps that employers can take to minimize liability by understanding and successfully navigating their competing obligations to employees and others.

Zero Tolerance – Creating Sexual Harassment Policies and Procedures; Kate Hibbard

Get practical information for advising your clients about creating effective policies to prevent and address sexual harassment. Topics include what should and should not be included in harassment policies, complaint procedures, workplace dating policies and much more. Minnesota CLE will provide attendees with a copy of a sexual harassment handbook, which includes a chapter written by Jenny Gassman-Pines on Anti-Harassment Policies, Complaint Procedures and Culture.

Cliff is a founding member of the firm and one of Minnesota’s most respected trial attorneys, regularly defending clients in high-profile claims including employment actions.

Faris represents clients in complex commercial litigation, including matters involving trade secrets, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, technology and software-related disputes, and product liability claims.

Jenny defends private and public-sector clients facing employment claims in courtroom and agency sessions. She regularly educates audiences of in-house counsel, business executives, and other trial attorneys about how to reduce exposure arising from business communications generally, and interactions with in-house counsel in particular.

Kate is a trial lawyer who has achieved extraordinary results for her clients both in and out of the courtroom. She has represented clients in class-action lawsuits, actions involving personal injuries and wrongful death claims, as well as litigation involving shareholder and intellectual property disputes, antitrust and employment claims, special litigation committees, and business torts.  Kate has also represented clients facing governmental investigations involving the Federal Trade Commission, the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Holley joined Greene Espel in 2017 after completing a federal clerkship with Judge Joan N. Ericksen of United States District Court for the District of Minnesota. Before clerking, she spent three years at Irell & Manella’s Los Angeles office. Her experience spans pre-litigation counseling to preparing clients for trial.
